After trying the chat support many times.. and getting nowhere..
This is what i emailed to them:
First Name: cait
Last Name: Berry
Address1: none of your business
Address2:
City: new york
State: NY
Zip: 10108
Zip+4:
Country: USA
Company Name:
Operating System:
Issue Description One: First of all.. I think the chat support is
broken. Ive tried it several times.. and i am on hold in "position 1"
for hours.
But anyway.
My problem is.. i have a Gateway EV700 monitor.. and usually the
settings works fine. It has the big button you press and rotate it to
change the settings. However, my dad tried it the other day, and it wont
work. You press the button in, it goes to the menu on the contrast
option. you press the button again, and it goes to adjusting the
contrast, however if you rotate the button, it doesnt do anything. And
also if you go back to where it says contrast, if you rotate the button
it still does nothing.
It makes the same sound it always does upon rotating it.. it just..
doesnt /GO/ anywhere.
My dad is retarded and thinks you should be able to use the mouse to
also change the options, but i keep telling him he CANT. it's
IMPOSSIBLE.
but anyway,
What could be wrong?

Hello Cait,
Thank you for using Gateway's Online E-mail Support. If the monitor
buttons does not work, it is most likely damaged. To properly address
your issue, please confirm the Gateway Customer ID, order number, or
serial number for this computer. This information will allow me to look
up the system so I can assist you with your current issue.
The 10-digit serial number is usually on a rectangular sticker, on the
back of the computer (not the monitor). In some cases, the sticker may
also be placed on the side of the computer or on the front bezel.
If you are not the original owner of the system, and you are not a
previous Gateway customer, I can transfer the system to your name.
Please provide the following information:
Name:
Address:
Telephone Number:
E-mail Address:
Once I have this information I will be able to transfer the system into
your name for you.
If you are a previous Gateway customer, please verify your Customer ID
so that I can transfer the system to that account.
Please reply to this message if you require further assistance with this
issue. If your reply is received while I am out of the office, to
ensure a speedy resolution, your issue will be handled by one of my
colleagues.
Thank you.

Gateway
and im thinkin.. wtf.. you idiots.. so this is what i sent back to them.
I just have a monitor.. no computer..
if it's 'damaged' than there's more than likely nothing you can do for
me over the internet besides tell me to send the monitor in along with
200$ for shipping charges. I got this monitor at a garage sale for 5$.
There's no way in hell I am going to pay anything to get it fixed if i
cant fix it myself.
There's no reason why you need my address or phone number. If i wanted
you to have my phone # i would call you. If i wanted you to have my
address, i would write you a letter.
But anyway, if you are tryin to confirm that im not trying to get
support for like.. some random non-gateway computer, then i will tell
you this.
the serial # on the back of the MONITOR is MU17026C0382317 and was
manufactored in april of 01.
But seriously, pretty much all youd need is the "EV700" to give general support.
So... yeah hewlett packards support > yours.
but thanks for a speedy reply, anyway.
~Cait
so yeah i totally dissed them. Beacause their support sucks. >_o
