Rant about video games

So i origionally started this as a comment in meh new friend's journal.. HOWEVER... It was long and i think it needed to be posted HERE in LONGER FORM.. so ya.



There was an article in my paper the other day about video game violence. Because i live in michigan our WONDERFULL (not) governer grandholm like banned M games from being sold to people under 17..

Ok so.. What makes a game being rated M?? Hmmm.. Possibly simulated real life violence, death, graphical death, Swearing, Toilet humor, etc. Well.. Isn't that what a bunch of other games are too? Just not with humans?? Now take harvest moon for example.. If you get your hoe out and go in the chicken coop.... ...wait nm.. That's violence twords animals. Noone cares about that. @_@

But seriously.. Like in random games.. that i probably have never played.. Well zelda might kinda be like it but whatever *shrug* You take your gun/sword/fist/spoon and just kill the heck out of aliens/'bad' people/rabid monkeys/misshapen squirrles/jousting peeps/etc. Wouldnt that be considered violence too? Maybe kids will learn to take all their violence out by pounding their cat with a spoon if you ban "M" games.

I have no idea if you've ever played it.. but a 10 years ago they gave away free copies of Chex Quest in the Chex cereal. Now Chex quest is the EXACT same thing as Doom.. And chex quest (i suppose) appeals to little kids. When you take your gun and shoot the monsters, green 'guts' (or if your using a doom/chex mod thing, Red guts) come out and splatter.. And in the bottom of the screen.. your little guy is covered in green slime/blood whenever he's about to die... So our lesson is here.. As long as a video game contains violence of ANY SORT... some IMMATURE little kid will expel his anger on the closest thing to him. Be it a teacher... peer.. or bunny.

What i think is a major problem in the world today is age discrimination. "You must be 16 to drive." "You must be 17 to buy this game" "You must be 5 to start kindermagarden" I think someone should invent maturity levels.. Like "you must have a maturtiy level of 1 before going to kidermagarden" "You must have a maturity level of 10 before you can drive" and whatever..

Because i am SICK.. Of people saying "YOU CANT DO THIS UNTIL THIS AGE." "YOU CANT DO THIS EITHER YOU ARE TOO YOUNG"

Things that can endager your health or have no positive use should be kept at the ages.. ex. alcohol 21, cigarettes 18... pr0n 18.. But if kids want the alcohol they're going to get it anyway i dont see the point >_< idiots..

But things that are whatever... dont need an age, but a maturity level..

I hate how the learning to drive system works.. The government says.. Kids dont even get in front of the wheel at ALL till they take drivers ed.. at 15..

Ok.. fair enough i guess.. SO here i am.. Mr. 15 year old.. goin to drivers ed.. i was the first person to drive the brand new 2004 ford tauros.. It had 11 miles on it when i got in.. But hmm. i was TERRIFIED to drive. I had never driven before.. Never done ANYTHING at all before.. however i did watch my parents when they drove.. So eventually i got through drivers ed.. and dear WHITEFACE.. i hated it.. I hate driving.. IT scares me to death.. SO here i am.. almost 18... Still on my level 1 "only drive with parents " lisence.. woo..
I think that the parents should be able to obtain a temporary lisence for kids who have a maturity level of ___Whatever.. so they can drive on.. like backroads or empty parking lots with their parents BEFORE drivers ed... so they dont end up terrified of driving and hating it forever like me..

So yea i think i will do that sometime.. Invent a maturity scale... perhaps ill promote it when me and shane take over the world... bwaha...
