JCC responds!
Jan. 6th, 2009 05:58 amHello Caiterz
Dr. Phelan asked me to respond to your concerns on his behalf. I am so glad he did. It has given me a chance to do some research about an excellent and talented student.
Because we have your g-mail address in your JCC records, I am able to more openly discuss your situation with you via e-mail. Let’s take one area at a time, and see what we can do to help you. I appreciate your frustrations, and I know it’s a difficult time in Michigan, especially in your County, which adds to all of our challenges.
Financial Aid: I know that the federal rules about making parents do part of the FAFSA can be a challenge. Because you filed for 2007, however, all you need to do is update the information. I’ll be glad to help you with that. It is important for you to do a FAFSA as then you can apply for JCC scholarships (due March 12) and also for scholarships available from the Hillsdale Community Foundation. This information is available on the JCC Financial Aid web page.
Math Class: I see why you were upset with that 2.5 as you have a straight 4.0 record! The way the Math department has set up the curriculum is uniform, with a high weight put on the exams. I will follow up with that instructor and the department, however, to make sure that the syllabus was adhered to.
Printing Class: I will talk to the lead faculty (Suzanne Woods) about your concerns for this course and Mr. Ward’s teaching of it. Perhaps we can at least arrange for you to work with Mrs. Woods and learn what you feel you might have missed in the class.
Locations: It is indeed a long drive from your town to main campus for night classes. I’ll talk to Mrs. Woods about your situation and find out if she has plans to change the time or locations at all. I’ll also ask for her help in arranging your internship with a focus on potential connections for a job.
Books: The entire college system is concerned about textbooks and book prices. I share your worries on this and the concern about even being able to sell books back at a reasonable price. We are working with our Student Government to host book exchanges for students.
Cait, I am very sorry for your loss. My mother died when I was young. My comfort has been feeling that she is with me still. Any time you need to talk about your frustrations and your situation, please make use of our social workers. Chris Reed-Hall and Doug McComas both have days that they come to Hillsdale each month.
As soon as I get some answers and options for you from Mrs. Woods, I will e-mail you. In the meantime, would you try to renew your FAFSA so we can look at other scholarship options? Let’s keep in touch.
Charlotte
SO in other words....
"Sucks to be you, lemme see if we can pay you back through knowledge"
yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa right
XD
